The National University will be playing in the UAAP finals for the first time in 44 years after beating Ateneo on Wednesday.
"I have to give it to the boys. They refused to lose, they refused to give up. There were times in the game when we were already down, but they stay focused. They kept on fighting and stayed together," NU Coach Eric Altamirano said, as reported by the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Thursday (October 2).
NU will be facing FEU, who beat La Salle in a dramatic buzzer-beating match the same day. FEU Coach Nash Racela said that this year’s finals is "the best thing that ever happened to UAAP."
This is the first finals since 1992 without either La Salle or Ateneo.
