Chief Justice Sereno pushes for bar exams revamp
The mantra: "Better bar exam, better lawyers"
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported on Sunday that Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is calling for a review of the bar exams. According to the report, this overhaul is part of Sereno’s reform program for the judiciary. The Chief Justice also wants to unclog court dockets by speeding up trials and to make justice more accessible to under-served areas.
Sereno said in a speech on Wednesday at the Court of Appeals that reviewing the categories and subjects included in the exams have already began. According to Sereno, a "revamp" is needed to be able to define (and produce) "the kind of lawyer the nation needs."
Last year, the Supreme Court lowered the passing rate from 75 percent to 73 percent so that more candidates make the cut.
