Oscar de la Renta passes away at 82
Wisdom from the acclaimed designer: live, love, and laugh.
ABC News reported on Tuesday that renowned designer Oscar de la Renta has died. De la Renta was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 but he continued to be a major influence in the fashion world. He recently designed Amal Clooney’s wedding dress.
De la Renta was born in the Dominican Republic in 1932, moved to Spain to study painting, and eventually settled in New York in 1963. By 1965, de la Renta was able to launch his own label. He went on to design clothes for first ladies Jacqueline Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama.
The ABC news report quotes an interview with Gotham Magazine, where de la Renta said:
"A huge mistake we make is forgetting that one day we will die. We think that we are going to live forever. I always say life is a little like a garden. There is a time to plant, then a time you have to weed. Just think about people you’ve deeply cared for. And then think of the people you wish you’d spent more time with."
