Graft and plunder charges filed against Senator Franklin Drilon and other officials connected to the Iloilo Convention Center
And another shot is fired
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported on Wednesday that there’s another overpriced building waiting to be investigated. Manuel Mejorada, tagged by the article as a former provincial administrator, has filed graft and plunder charges against government officials involved in the construction of the Iloilo Convention Center.
Senator Franklin Drilon, Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson, and other officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways were charged with, among others, malversation of public funds, violation of procurement law, anti-graft and corrupt practices act, and dishonesty and grave misconduct.
"Mayroon akong matibay na dokumento kung paano nilitson o nilutong Macau ang bidding ng Iloilo Convention ni Drilon," Mejorada said.
The Iloilo Convention Center is a P700-million project by Hilmarc’s Construction Corporation, the same contractor behind the similarly controversial Makati City Hall Building 2. Mejorada is claiming that Drilon set aside P200 million from his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), another P200 million for the Department of Tourism, and P100 million from the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
