On Monday, SM City North EDSA officially switched on the largest solar-powered rooftop in its Quezon City establishment and according to a report by GMA News, the company is already looking forward to installing more panels in other malls.
"With the launch of the solar power system that will make SM City North EDSA the very first SM mall in the Philippines to become solar-powered," President Benigno Aquino III said during the launch, held at the multi-level car park building of the mall.
The renewable energy project was done in partnership with Solar Philippines, a company headed by Leandro Leviste, the son of Senator Loren Legarda and her former husband, Tony Leviste.
SM Dasmariñas and SM Mall of Asia are the next targets for SM Prime and Solar Philippines. Meanwhile, Leviste told ABS-CBN News that he is also working with other companies that are looking to go green. "CityMall [in Roxas, Capiz] is opening on December 12, and our panels will be powering the mall by then. Robinsons in Puerto Princesa, Palawan will be completed by Christmas."
