Mayor Lani Cayetano gets audited, COA asks about P317.4 million unaccounted funds
Let’s see if she walks the talk her husband has been giving
The tables are turning slowly as Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s wife gets audited. Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, who is already facing plunder and graft charges, has been asked by the Commission on Audit to account for P317.4 million allegedly spent on employees who are not on the city’s payroll.
These allegations are based on documents submitted by Heidi Mendoza, who also questioned Dr. Elenita Binay’s spending on medical equipment. Mayor Cayetano is also being asked to explain the P102.3 million spent on "medicines and medical, dental, laboratory and office supplies" supposedly in the city hall inventory-along with the explanation for missing payroll documents and questionable employment of consultants.
Lito Laparan of the Public Information Office told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that they are in the process of reading the COA report and that a statement from Mayor Cayetano’s camp will be issued today.
