Twelve bogus NGOs received P900M in Malampaya funds, says COA chairman
NGOs are linked to the alleged pork barrel mastermind, Janet Lim-Napoles
In her testimony in front of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee, Commission on Audit (COA) Chairman Maria Gracia Pulido-Tan revealed that P900 million in Malampaya funds ended up in the pockets of 12 bogus NGOs, The Philippine Star reports.
According to Pulido-Tan, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) received the funds from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) following a request from 97 mayors as aid for the effects of Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. However, an audit showed that 67 of these mayors denied signing any such request.
This investigation, which began yesterday and is headed by committee chair Senator Teofisto Guingona III, is an offshooot of the pork barrel fund controversy. Janet Lim-Napoles, who is believed to have masterminded the pork barrel scam, was not invited to the hearing.
