Trash cleaning device for creek installed by DOST and QC gov’t
Environmental rehabilitation on its way, one waterway at a time
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has installed an automatic trash raking facility along the Balingasa creek in Barangay Manresa, Quezon City. According to a report by The Philippine Star, this facility hopes to clear the clogged creek that was the cause of severe flooding in the areas along the stretch of Araneta Avenue. QC Mayor Herbert Bautista praises the P10-million worth donation by the DOST, stating this technology could be adopted by other cities and municipalities plagued with the same problem.
DOST Secretary Mario Montejo credits the DOST's Metal Industry Research and Development Center for creating this device. Aside from being able to efficiently clean up a waterway, it could also indirectly "show the people in the vicinity (of Balingasa creek) how much garbage they're throwing," he said.
