MMDA to implement new traffic scheme for the holidays
They’re giving you the gift of Christmas loops and free shuttle services
With Christmas just around the corner and traffic getting more and more congested each day, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is looking to implement two provisions to ease heavy traffic over the holidays. They have proposed the opening of Christmas loops, which are alternative routes heading towards the domestic airport; as well as free shuttle buses to ferry passengers to and from the domestic airport terminals.
The loops will be color coded and will take motorists from either the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Roxas Boulevard, or Makati City to one of the domestic airport terminals. MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations Emerson Carlos added that the MMDA will also provide a free shuttle service to take passengers to and from these terminals this Christmas season.
Aside from the two initiatives, starting Wednesday cargo trucks headed towards SLEX will have to find alternative routes as they will no longer be allowed to pass through Roxas Boulevard. This ban will be in place for six months.
