DENR wants one geologist for every province
Save the earth, be a geologist!
Loving the earth is still cool. According to the Philippine Star, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has requested for funds from the Department of Budget and Management for the hiring of more geologists in the country. Secretary Ramon Paje said the additional geologists are needed for geohazard mapping.
The department is also seeking out more support from local government units, particularly for the "geoscience" part of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. "It will be up to the local government to hire a resident geologist. Though they have provincial environment and natural resource officers, having an expert like a geologist is better," Paje said.
In the instance that the LGUs would not have enough funds for hiring, the DENR chief said that the national government should provide the necessary support for them. The DENR provides scholarships to students taking up environment-related courses like Geology.
