Defense lawyers in Laude case seek to reduce murder rap to homicide
He is still being detained at Camp Aguinaldo
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported on Friday that US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton, accused of murdering Jennifer Laude in Olongapo, has officially surrendered to the Olongapo court.
According to the report, Pemberton was not arraigned and that his lawyers are hoping to argue a reduction of the charges from murder to homicide. Olongapo Chief City Prosecutor Emily Fe de los Santos said in return that they have strong evidence against the suspect for a murder conviction.
The court said that Pemberton’s pleadings will be heard on December 22, but that there is no definite date for the arraignment.
Pemberton will be transferred back to Camp Aguinaldo within the day.
