How to Avail SSS Calamity Loan for Typhoon Kristine Victims

(SPOT.ph) If the aftermath of Typhoon Kristine has left you or a loved one in need of financial support, know that the Social Security System (SSS) has a special calamity loan program to support its members. 

Eligible members could access loans equivalent to their monthly salary credit, with a cap of P20,000. 

“As part of our proactive response to the urgent financial needs of our members and pensioners during natural calamities, the SSS loan programs are readily available to support their recovery,” SSS Senior Vice President Pedro Baoy said.

Typhoon Kristine has caused widespread damage across Luzon and Visayas. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's (NDRRMC) latest bulletin said the typhoon has claimed the lives of at least 13. Several others are reported missing and injured, while over two million are left struggling to recover from the severe flooding.

How to claim SSS Calamity Loan

The calamity loan offers a two-year repayment period in 24 equal monthly installments, with an annual interest rate of 10%.

To qualify for the calamity loan, SSS members must meet specific criteria:

• Should have at least 36 monthly contributions, with six posted within the last 12 months before the loan application
• Must reside in the officially declared calamity area
• Must be under 65 years old at the time of application
• Should have no final benefit claim, such as permanent total disability or retirement
• Must not have any past-due SSS short-term member loans or outstanding restructured loans or calamity loans

Members can apply for the calamity loan assistance program through theSSS website. Once logged in, go to the "E-Services" section and click on "Apply for Calamity Loan."

Those who prefer to submit the application in person can fill out a printed Calamity Loan Assistance Application and submit to any SSS branch office. Make sure to bring a valid ID and, if applicable, an authorization letter if someone else is applying for you.

Approved loans will be credited to the member’s registered Unified Multi-Purpose Identification (UMID)-ATM Card or active accounts with a PESONet participating bank.
