The Commission on Elections said Tuesday it dismissed another petition seeking to block the presidential candidacy of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., one that questioned if the real son of the late dictator was still alive.
The poll body's second division has denied the petition filed by Tiburcio Villamor Marcos to cancel Marcos Jr.'s certificate of candidacy for president, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez told reporters.
Tiburcio also filed his candidacy for president in the 2022 elections, but he was not included in the tentative list of candidates released by the Comelec.
In his petition, Tiburcio alleged that the real son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos has died and the one gunning for Malacañang is an impostor.
Marcos Jr. had debunked the rumor as early as 2019. "Hindi ko nga malaman paano naumpisahan yang storya na iyan. Hindi na raw ako ang tunay na Bongbong, ako na raw yung kapalit," he said in a vlog.
Aside from this case, the Comelec also denied another petition seeking to declare Marcos Jr. a nuisance candidate, citing lack of evidence to prove that the former senator was making a mockery of the election process.
At present, Marcos Jr. is still facing at least five formal petitions seeking to block his road to Malacañang, three of which will be tackled in a preliminary conference set for Jan. 7.
