Filipinos on Twitter wished each other "pagaling" as flu meds and painkillers run low on stock in pharmacies during a flu season that hit as COVID cases rise again.
Pagaling, roughly translated to "get well soon," has amassed at least 5,000 tweets of Filipinos telling each other to rest, drink water, and keep safe at home. People are recovering from coughs, colds, body pain, headaches, and fever, owed largely to social interactions during the holidays and shifty weather conditions.
Medicine for the listed ailments are either sold out or rationed in drug stores, which got Biogesic and paracetamol topping Twitter trends on Tuesday. Other out of stock drugs included Bioflu, Neozep, and Decolgen.
While most of the symptoms point to the typical flu, other tweets also encouraged those who are sick to get tested for COVID-19, as the less severe Omicron variant is more transmissible.
The Department of Health and manufacturer Unilab said they were working to stabilize stocks of Biogesic in major pharmacies nationwide. For now, Filipinos can purchase other brands of paracetamol as an alternative.
