Former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach on Friday reminded her 15 million Instagram followers to take COVID-19 seriously after sharing how she and her sister recovered from the disease while in the United Kingdom.
Wurtzbach is among the latest celebrities, politicians and high-profile personalities who gave a face to the global surge driven by the Omicron variant, described by the World Health Organization as a "tsunami".
"Ang dami nang nagkasakit. I don‘t wanna sound preachy but let’s not be selfish and go breaking protocols, hoarding supplies, refusing to get tested and vaccinated," Wurtzbach said. As of Friday, the beauty queen had one day of isolation left and had tested negative.
Wurtzbach said she got COVID despite being fully vaccinated and with a booster shot. She also suffered from loss of taste and smell, fever, sore throat, body pain, runny rose and cough.

"It’s not like a regular cold or flu that goes away after a few days. I’ve never been sick for this long, which lasted more than a week," she said.
"The worst is through. I am recovering well. I am beyond grateful my parents are safe. Di sila nahawa sakin," she said.
Wurtzbach flew to the UK during the Christmas holidays to be with her mother, stepfather, sister and niece and boyfriend Jeremy Jauncey, who is in Scotland.
