Lacson Says Noynoy Aquino is Philippine President He Admires Most

Presidential candidate Panfilo Lacson on Saturday said that among past Philippine presidents, he admires Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, citing the late chief executive's policies and anti-corruption.

Lacson was reponding to a question by GMA News anchor Jessica Soho in a taped interview.

"Hinahangaan ko si PNoy. Una pinangunahan niya ang 'no wang-wang policy,' napakasimple pero napaka-sympbolic. Ibig sabihin walang entitlement. Sa nakaraang pangulo natin siya hinahangaan ko. Di siya corrupt," he said, referring to Aquino's refusal to use police sirens to cut through traffic.

Lacson worked as the Aquino administration's rehabilitation and recovery czar in late 2013 to early 2015 after Super Typhoon Yolanda hit the Philippines.

Aquino implemented the "no wang-wang" policy in 2011, which prohibited his security team from using sirens or flashing lights while they were on the move. Members of his cabinet and staff were also barred from using them.

Aquino is the only son of martyred senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and former President Cory Aquino and served as a president from 2010 to 2016. He was succeeded by incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte.

The former president died at 61 on Jun. 24, 2021, with family citing renal disease secondary to diabetes as cause.
