This Year's Grammys was a 'Breakout Year' for Filipino American Artists

Pinoy pride served by Olivia Rodrigo, Bruno Mars, and H.E.R.

The 64th annual Grammy Awards beamed with "Pinoy pride" on Sunday (Monday, Manila time) as Filipino American artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Bruno Mars, and H.E.R. took home several awards.

With a combined total of 22 Grammy nominations together with rapper Saweetie and singer Elle King, music's biggest night this year has been dubbed by the Los Angeles Times as a  "breakout year" for these acts, who have openly acknowledged their mixed heritage to show how Filipino diaspora has permeated American music's consciousness.

Named Peter Gene Hernandez at birth, Bruno Mars, through his Retro act Silk Sonic with rapper Anderson .Paak, was the second biggest act of the night with his four awards including Record and Song of the Year for their song, "Leave the Door Open".

In her first Grammys ever, pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo took home three awards, such as Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance.

Out of her eight nominations, H.E.R., won Best Traditional R&B Performance for her song "Fight for You".  Known off stage as Gabriella Wilson, the 24-year-old gave fellow Filipinos and Black Americans a special shoutout  last year after she won her first Oscar for this song that she made for the movie “Judas and the Black Messiah".
