Let's Do This: Bulk of 2021 Budget to Help Us Get Back On Our Feet

As early as now, the public is already being informed of where — or which sectors, in particular — the proposed P4.3-trillion budget for 2021 will go.

Budget and Management Secretary Wendel Avisado stated during the Laging Handa public briefing Wednesday that next year's national funds will be mainly alloted to the revival of the Philippine economy, in line with the fight against COVID.

“Lahat ng ito ay nakatuon sa priorities ng national government in line pa rin with our desire to precisely continue to combat this pandemic and at the same time also provide the kind of programs, activities, and projects for our people lalo’t higit iyong mga nawalan ng hanapbuhay or trabaho at ng sa ganoon ay mayroon po silang mapagkukuhanan.”

In comparison, 2019 had a P4.1 trillion budget.

According to Avisado, budget proposals from government agencies are still under technical review, and that an executive review early next month will determine the priority programs in need of financing.

These projects “will concentrate more on labor-intensive projects and activities to give income opportunities to the most vulnerable and the most affected sector and workers both in public and private sectors.”

The agency hopes to finalize the pending budget ceilings, so that President Rodrigo Duterte's office can have the spending proposal before his State of the Nation Address late in July.
