Is 2020 the End for Jose Mari Chan Memes? The Internet Says No
It has been a full 30 years since "Christmas In Our Hearts" was released.
(SPOT.ph) Seems 2020 has dealt us with the worst cards yet—like one "plus four" Uno card after the other—but that doesn't mean Filipinos are about to give up on the things that make our Christmas season extra special (for lack of a better term). Yup, we're talking about the annual pseudo-tradition of marking the "ber" months with Jose Mari Chan memes!
The artist's name began floating around on the Internet as soon as August started, a full month before the "ber" ones even set in. And seeing as it has been 30 years since the classic carol "Christmas in Our Hearts" first came out in 1990, it looks like this song is definitely here to stay for what we're guessing is a couple more decades.
"It's a sad time now but I feel blessed that a Christmas song I wrote three decades ago continues to be loved and sung today," Chan told ABS-CBN. Sure, the headlines are coming in left and right but the carols of Jose Mari Chan are a reminder of the good old times—and can maybe even give you hope for better ones ahead, too. Plus, who can ignore the borderline-ridiculous meme fest they give us every year? If you need a breather, we round up some of the funniest, quarantine-style JMC memes we've seen so far.
And it isn't even September yet!
Complete with all the fun attitude.
You know you're in a Pinoy household when this happens.
...but this time with a face mask.
It sure feels like it.
Even the lyrics are getting changed to fit the times.
Can you imagine a Christmas without carolers?
Try reading this without singing it.
It's getting closer!
Think we'll be having a COVID-free December?
