(SPOT.ph) The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) continues to change transport in the South. Pedestrian and bike lanes on both sides of the tallest and arguably longest bridge in the country have finally opened—and it's free to use.
Since it opened in 2022, the CCLEX has served more than 12,500 motor vehicles every day, easing traffic flow from the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge that connects Cebu's cities. Now it is catering to walkers, runners, and bikers, too.
To reiterate, use of this lane is free. Bikers are required to wear proper safety gear like helmet and closed shoes. However, small-wheeled devices like skateboards, roller blades, and stand scooters are prohibited on this lane. Take note that this is a one-way lane, as bikers are instructed to refrain from making U-turns once on the road.

New pedestrian and bike lane at the Cebu-Cordovia Link Expressway (CCLEX)
The lanes are open from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m, with the last entry at 4:30 p.m. Access this lane through the walkway beside the SRP U-turn slot at the Cebu City side. The entrance is right on the seaside area of the South Road Properties. On the other hand, those coming from Cordovia can access it via the MCR.
Walkers, runners, and bikers who are coming to the CCLEX with a car can also have it parked at the CCLEX Food Park.

There's no doubt that these pictures from the CCLEX are stunning. However, some bikers have noted that the 1.5-meter lane isn't enough space for both pedestrians and bikers. In 2020, the Department of Public Works and Highways published Department Order No. 88, which required new bridge construction to have a minimum width of 2.44 meters for bike lanes.
This is what the CCLEX management had to say about the concern:
