LRT-1 Cavite Extension Opens With Five Stations in November
That's 6.2 kilometers of new railway in the south.
(SPOT.ph) If you’ve been waiting (and waiting) for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension to reach your side of town, we have good news! The Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista told reporters that the first five stations of the extension will open next week on November 16, 2024. Perfect for the upcoming holidays.
This first phase of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension includes these stops: Redemptorist-Aseana, MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino, and Dr. Santos. Stretching the LRT-1 line from Baclaran, these new terminals will provide faster options for those traveling to and from high-traffic areas like Parañaque and nearby spots in Cavite.
The project is divided into two phases. Phase 1 covers five stations from Redemptorist-Aseana to Dr. Santos, while Phase 2 covers the remaining three stations from Las Piñas to Niog. This means the LRT-1 will amount to 32.4 kilometers of railway.
If everything goes to plan (and it has been so far), full operations are expected by 2031.

What to know about LRT-1 Cavite Extension
The Cavite Extension will increase the total number of LRT-1 stations from 20 to 28. Five stations will be in Parañaque City, one in Las Piñas, and two in Bacoor, Cavite, which explains why the project is also referred to as the South Extension Project.
Here are the stations in the LRT-1 Cavite Extension:
- Redemptorist-Aseana Station
- MIA Road Station
- PITX Station
- Ninoy Aquino Station
- Dr. Santos Station
- Las Piñas Station
- Zapote Station
- Niog Station
Each of these stations is strategically located to provide convenient access to key areas in the city. For example, the MIA Road Station will be the closest station to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), while the PITX Station will be connected to—you guessed it—the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange for intermodal transportation.
Dr. Santos Station will also have a bus terminal, sports facility, and interconnection to SM City Sucat.
When will Phase 2 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension open?
Construction for the Cavite Extension began in 2019, with Phase 2 construction to start once Phase 1 reaches a 100% completion rate.
"[For] Phase 2, [we are] meeting with the DOTr to be able to commence the construction. We have to clarify a few points before we proceed," Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) President Enrico Benipayo said in a briefing during the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 site visit.
Once operational, travel time from Pasay to Cavite will be cut to 25 to 30 minutes from the current one hour and 30 minutes. It is expected to serve around 800,000 daily passengers.
