PHOTOS: Highlights from the UAAP Cheerdance Competition 2013

This year, the underdog takes the crown.

( Putting the UAAP Men’s Basketball drama aside, this year's cheerdance competition united all UAAP schools with a few kicks, amazing stunts, those inevitable falls, and the all-too funny, quirky, or campy themes. It was an afternoon of fire, fatigues, disco balls, genie lamps, and Katy Perry-inspired outfits at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on September 15, Sunday.

For the first time, the NU Bulldogs Pep Squad, with the theme of Arabian nights, bagged the crown as the champion (their first cheerdance competition title). Their clean routine out-shined the defending champion, the University of the Philippines Pep Squad who showcased their talents in a very ’80s-themed routine complete with shiny disco balls as pompoms. The De La Salle Animo Squad finished in third place.

The NU Pep Squad swept the competition by winning in the Group Stunts category as well, while De La Salle's Ana De Leon was named this year's Samsung Stunner.
