President Rodrigo has just signed a law to create the National Academy of Sports, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said on June 10.
The senator, who serves as the chairperson of the Senate committee on sports, said the president signed Republic Act 11470 in Davao City on June 9.
A national sports program will be created and a secondary educational system under the program will help advance the athletic skills of students. Special training in world-class facilities will also be provided.
The main campus of the sports academy will be at the New Clark City Sports Complex in Capas, Tarlac. Said complex was used for the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019 and has the proper sports and housing facilities that adhere to international standards.
The sports academy will be under the Department of Education (DepEd). The Philippine Sports Commission will also be involved in the academy’s creation and management. DepEd will appoint the academy’s executive director.
