The Iglesia ni Cristo Controversy Now Includes Names and a Libel Case
The saga continues.
(SPOT.ph) Expelled Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) member Angel Manalo spoke again on Tuesday (July 28), calling on Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo to meet with him and his mother to discuss the corruption allegations that has caused a crisis in their church.
In a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Angel Manalo pointed to Glicerio Santos Jr. (INC auditor) and Radek Cortez (a member of the INC’s 12-member advisory council or Sanggunian), saying, "They kept on asking for more and more contributions when the church members could not afford to give anymore. They put the money in projects that had nothing to do with religion." He added that he will be presenting more evidence against the Sanggunian "in the next few days."
Meanwhile, INC has responded with a libel case against expelled minister Isaias Samson Jr., who accused the church of illegally detaining 10 other ministers and threatening the life of his family. The church submitted a six-page complaint, explaining, "The allegation that INC committed illegal detention and that it threatened the life of [the] respondent are scurrilous and clearly defamatory."
