NGO names VP Robredo as "Most Influential Filipina"
Her record proves it.
(SPOT.ph) "Feminism is inclusivity and empowerment, so that each gender can thrive in a society that nurtures all," said Vice President Leni Robredo during the 14th Filipina Leadership Global Summit Gala Awards Ceremony at Shangri-La Mactan in Cebu City on Tuesday afternoon, August 23. She received the "Most Influential Filipina Woman of the World Award" from the non-government organization Filipina Women's Network.
The award was under the "Nicole" category, a citation which "honors Filipino women, whose words, actions, and activism inspire others to act and revolutionize society’s way of understanding traditional beliefs and customs, thus leaving behind a Filipino global imprint." Filipina Women's Network (FWN) applauded Robredo's achievements as part of the Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panligan, an advocacy-based law firm in Naga City which encourages young legal professionals to take on leadership roles. The firm also provides access to capital for rural women to be competitive and enterprising business owners. They also cited Robredo's People Empowerment Bill (HB 4911), which strives to include every Filipino in making political decisions and policies.
As the current head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, the vice president wants to come up with a more efficient system for investors interested in socialized housing projects. She aims to speed up the processing of documents from the current span of two years to just 15 to 30 days. “We cannot start this without the needed officials. I hope that by September 2016, there will already be new presidential appointees and hopefully, by October 1, the shelter agencies will already be filled up. Within a month after that, we can come up with the (Citizens’) Charter,” Robredo said during the DevTalks Forum hosted by the Cebu Provincial Government and Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. on the same day.
