The NAIA Expressway is now open
It's free toll for a month!
(SPOT.ph) The Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway Phase 2 opened at 12:01 a.m. today, September 22. Department of Public Works and Highways Sec. Mark Villar led the inauguration of the project that started in January 2014. The expressway is expected to help ease traffic congestion, especially the two-hour standstill that usually happens when motorists are traveling out of the airport terminal.
The opened segment includes the elevated expressway that links Terminals 1 and 2 in Parañaque to Macapagal Boulevard and PAGCOR Entertainment City in Pasay. Department of Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade announced on September 14 that toll fees for the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAx) are waived during the first month of operation. The rest of the expressway, scheduled to open in December, will connect Terminals 1, 2, and 3 to the South Luzon Expressway and Skyway.
The 17.9-billion project consists of a 7.75-kilometer elevated expressway, 2.22-kilometer at-grade roads, and 16 on and off ramps. It will hopefully cut the travel time between the Skyway and NAIA Terminal 1 from 24 minutes to 8.2 minutes.
