Here's what you need to know about Kalanggaman Island
It's one of Google's top trending searches for 2016.
(SPOT.ph) The Philippine islands are getting a lot of love this year, especially after international websites included some of our hottest destinations in their Best Islands in the World lists. But it's not only Palawan and Boracay that's receiving all the attention.
On December 14, Google named the trending searches in 2016. "Love Yourself," a song by Justin Bieber, was on first place, while mobile phone applications slither.io and Pokemon Go are on second and third. For local vacation destinations, Kalanggaman Island tops the list, which doesn't come as a surprise for this not-so-secret beach destination in Palompon, Leyte.
It was in 2013 when this island known for its long white sand bar started getting international attention after German luxury cruise ship made a stopover at Kalanggaman. Since then, it has become a regular destination for the 14-day voyage of Hapag-Lloyd cruise ships.
There are no resorts in the island, but that's okay, you have the whole powdery white sand beach for camping. Snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, and swimming in the crystal clear waters are just some of the activities in the island. In case you're wondering if Kalanggaman has a lot of ants, you should know that langgam in Sebwano means birds. And, yes, this marine sanctuary has a lot of those.
