Brace Yourselves: December 21 is the Day of the “Carmageddon”
It will get worse.
(SPOT.ph) As much as we love the holidays, we can't help but wish for it to be over, if only for the traffic congestion especially around malls. And, sadly, it will get worse. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced today, December 19 that heavy traffic is expected on Friday, December 21.
A lot of people are expected to leave Metro Manila to either go home to their provinces for the holiday season or to tourist destinations for a long weekend getaway. December 24 is a Special Non-Working Holiday while December 25 is a Regular Holiday. On top of that, people in the Metro will be flocking to retail stores for some last-minute Christmas shopping.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, traffic flow can go as slow as 14 kilometers per hour, five kilometers less than the usual. EDSA, Balintawak, Cubao, Ortigas, Ayala, Buendia and other areas with malls and bus terminals are possible "carmageddon" areas.
