(SPOT.ph) With the May 13 election fast approaching, there's very little anyone can do to stop the influx of political memes going around social media. Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, who has been the subject of memes many times now, is not new to such posts. Though others would have been overlooked, a meme of him seemingly endorsing senatorial bets from the opposition recently caught his attention, and Panelo naturally had something to say.
Posted by the page Malacañang Events and Catering Services on May 9, the meme is an edited image of Panelo presenting an alleged ouster plot against the President. Instead of the rather controversial "matrix" of involved personalities, names of senatorial bets from the opposition were written on the whiteboard, along with the words, "For an independent senate."
"While we understand that the post is a political meme, which is the norm in this campaign season, the same however amounts to a defamatory imputation," Panelo was quoted in a GMA News Online article, noting it could affect his credibility as the presidential spokesperson. After all, believing that dishonesty is excusable in public officials makes him undeniably credible.
