(SPOT.ph) Whether you're planning a road trip to La Union or attending a work event in Subic, the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway is the most convenient route to take to practically any point north of Metro Manila. Just be sure to prepare yourself for a new fare scheme, as the NLEX Corporation officially announced a P0.51 per kilometer hike in toll fees, set to take effect starting 12:01 a.m. on June 14.
Under this new fare matrix, ordinary Class 1 vehicles travelling north from the Mabiga Interchange in Mabalacat City, Pampanga, to the the final exit in Tarlac City will have to pay an additional P20. Meanwhile, those travelling south from the Mabiga Interchange to the Tipo exit in Subic will be charged an additional P32. The interchange is where travellers from the Metro taking the North Luzon Expressway move to the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx).Â
Class 2 vehicles, composed of buses and small trucks, will be charged an additional P40 to go north from the Mabiga Interchange, and P60 to go south. For Class 3 vehicles, or large trucks, the additional fee to go north is P60 and P98 to go south.Â
This fare hike was approved by the Toll Regulatory Board based on a petition filed in 2011 by the Bases Conversion Development Authority, the government owned corporation that was in charge of building the expressway. Operations and maintenance of SCTEx was officially transferred to NLEX Corporation in 2015.Â
