PSA: San Juan Will Soon Become a "Smart City" With Free WiFi Zones

The city is jumping into 3019.

(SPOT.ph) The Internet has pretty much become the world's number one source for knowledge; making it a basic human right in the eyes of some. After all, how else are we going to keep updated with the latest news—and, yes, even memes. San Juan City residents can rejoice, as their local government is taking steps to ensure online access for everyone. Free WiFi zones will be set up all over San Juan City before the end of 2019, says Mayor Francis Zamora.

"Unlike in other areas where WiFi connections are only available at the city hall and hospitals, here in San Juan, WiFi zones will be spread in the entire city," said Zamora in a report by the Manila Bulletin. "We will already have WiFi zones in the city before the end of the year," he promised.

The local government of San Juan City has partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to help with linking all 21 barangays of the city to a WiFi connection. According to the mayor, the department will soon be conducting surveys to figure out where it would be best to place these WiFi zones.
