PSA: Folded Umbrellas Are Now Allowed in Your Hand-Carry Baggage

A tip for your next trip!

(SPOT.ph) Love it or hate it, packing for a trip is one of the most exciting parts of travelling. There's a certain art to stuffing your bags with the necessary (and sometimes not-so-necessary) items and figuring out which goes to your check-in or hand-carry baggage. But it looks like we've got one more item we can now put in our carry-ons: The Department of Transportation has announced that foldable umbrellas are now allowed to be brought on planes as part of your hand luggage.

All types of umbrellas were originally considered "a prohibited item for carry-on [baggage because they have] sharp and pointed components," said the Office of Transport Security in an announcement on their Facebook page.  This policy was updated thanks to "public clamor to allow carriage of folded umbrellas in both cabin and checked baggage."

While folded umbrellas are now allowed in your carry-on bags, cane umbrellas are not, clarified both government bodies. Cane umbrellas must still be checked in if you wish to bring them with you.
