Is This the Bad Place? Today's Heat Index Reaches 49°C

How are you, Cavite City folks?

( When the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned us that "we could experience the hottest or maximum temperature, possibly of this year, this May" they were definitely not joking. Today, May 7 at 2 p.m., the weather agency calculated a heat index of 49°C from their station in Sangley Point, Cavite City as of 2:05 p.m.

Heat index, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), is the "human discomfort index that gives the apparent temperature or what human perceive or feel as the temperature affecting their body." The recorded temperature may be close to normal, but you swear that you feel that it's at an all-time high. You can almost hear Eleanor (yes, from The Good Place) saying that, indeed, "This is the bad place!" The high humidity just makes it worse.

Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are most likely to be experienced if heat index goes between 41°C and 54°C. Continued activity, such as working out at home or doing grocery runs, could also lead to heatstroke. On May 6, the country’s highest heat index is at 53°C in Butuan City.
