As the COVID-19 crisis hit, several industries were severely disrupted, and one of this was the motel and hotel industry. Car enthusiast and businesswoman Angie King—whose family owns the Victoria Court chain of motels—reached out to her employees to give them a grim announcement through a video that has been making rounds on the Internet.
In an Instagram post, King admits that she will be closing all her Victoria Court branches and clarifies that the video she released was meant for her staff and not the public. "It's true that we have to close all my hotels due to COVID19," she writes. "The video I released was for my staff and not for public." She ends her statement by saying that her main concern is finding work for her staff who have been with her for decades.
But, not all Victoria Court branches are closing. The chain is managed by Angie King and her brother, Atticus King, and the latter will keep his branches open—albeit with some retrenchment of personnel. Atticus King also made this clarification in a quick video he posted on social media.
The toll this pandemic is taking isn't over. It's best to still stay home as much as possible, wear a face mask whenever you go out, wash your hands frequently, and disinfect thoroughly. Stay safe, Spotters!
