Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing at St. Luke's Starts Today

They do the "gold standard" for testing, the RT-PCR.

(SPOT.ph) If initial antibody tests come back positive, then it's best to get the final answer regarding COVID-19 with a polymerase chain reaction-based test kit (the kind where you need to get swabbed). St. Luke's Medical Center starts their drive-thru service for this RT-PCR testing today, July 13. You can avail of the testing at either their Taguig or Quezon City branch.

The medical center is offering this service for asymptomatic patients. It will be available daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Global City and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Quezon City. Just be sure to set an appointment at least 2 days before by contacting them anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. St. Luke's also offers blood works through the drive-thru service.

The RT-PCR testing, short for reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, is considered the gold standard for confirming COVID-19 cases. A mucus sample is needed—hence the dreaded swab—and sent to the proper lab for testing to see if the virus is indeed present. A rapid antibody test on the other hand simply checks if the antibodies needed to fight the pathogen is present in your blood, from there it can be assumed whether or not you have the virus.

You can get something similar to the rapid antibody test over at The Medical City Ortigas, which also offers a drive-thru service. Their kind of testing is called the Enhanced Chemiluminescence Immunoassay antibody test, which promises 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity, according to The Medical City—though an RT-PCR test is still recommended for those whose antibody tests return positive.
