The Pasig City market is getting a makeover after 12 years. The floor tiles are now being replaced, according to a Facebook post by Mayor Vico Sotto on Tuesday, August 25, in response to complaints about the slippery tiles.
Tile replacement started at the market's meat section. The Pasig Mega Market goes by many names: The Pasig Palengke, Pasig Market, and the more official Mutya ng Pasig Public Market. With three storeys and a total of nearly 20,000 square meters worth of floor area, it is quite possibly the largest in the country, according to the Pasig City government website.
Around 2,500 market stalls can be found in this massive palengke. Not to mention an addition 3,000 or so stalls that pop up during the weekends when a flea market operates. With the huge foot traffic this place is sure to experience—quarantine or not—we can only imagine what 12 years could have done to the floor tiles! It definitely seems like now is a good time for some improvement.
