(SPOT.ph) Most employees in the Philippines get medical and dental benefits from their companies through health maintenance organizations. These health plans, which aren't deducted from our salaries unlike PhilHealth, often cover outpatient consultations, emergency room treatments, laboratory procedures, hospitalizations, and annual physical exams–at least until we resign. But as more and more people are allured by the flexibility and freedom in freelancing, there are those who aren't anymore covered by an employer's HMO benefits.

Fortunately, there are a number of prepaid health cards you can avail yourself of with no paperwork required. Getting them is also as easy as tapping the "Add to Cart" button.

While PRIMA is specifically designed for medical consultations and laboratory procedures, Maxicare EReady Titanium covers P15,000-worth of expenses for immediate medical assistance, which can be life-threatening conditions, illnesses, or injuries, at all Maxicare-affiliated hospitals nationwide. My MediCard is not limited to specific clinics and hospitals, as long as you're having your outpatient consultation with MediCard-accredited doctors in MediCard-accredited clinics and hospitals nationwide. For P500, the MediCard Health Check card includes a one-time annual physical exam (including complete blood count, urinalysis, fecalysis, and chest x-ray) and unlimited check-ups with a general practitioner, family medicine physician, internal medicine physician, pediatrician, and gynecologist (except on maternity-related consultations). Just make sure that you set your appointment from Monday to Friday at the MediCard Free-Standing Clinic where you purchased your Health Check. There are 16 MediCard Free-Standing Clinics, which includes branches at Festival Supermall in Muntinlupa City, Parc Royale Condominum in Pasig City, Uptowm Mall Link in Taguig City, and Eton Centris in Quezon City. Aside from an annual physical exam and unlimited outpatient consultations (general practitioner, family medicine physical, pediatrician, medical internist, and gynecologist) at any MediCard Free-Standing Clinic, RxER also entitles the cardholder up to P20,000 one-time coverage of emergency care charges at any hospital. You can automatically use your card at MediCard-accredited hospitals, but you can also get 100% reimbursement if you rush to a non-accredited emergency care provider. Emergency treatment is limited to trauma cases, burns, animal bites, and accidental chemical poisoning. Additional benefits are a flat rate of P350 for consultations not previously mentioned; one-time oral prophylaxis and dental consultations; and a 30% discount on laboratory tests, surgeries, Skin Care Clinic procedures, and dental procedures. ER Care Basic 50, as the name describes, covers expenses on outpatient emergency room care and medicines as medically necessary administered in the emergency room. With a benefit limit of P50,000, it is eligible for use in cases of accidents (including stroke), fractures, burns, animal bites (including the first dose of vaccine), cuts that need suturing, sports injuries (except professional sports and high-risk sports), and accidental chemical poisoning. Individuals from 18 to 64 years old are eligible for this health plan. It is for one-time use only, whether the total annual benefit limit is consumed or not.
