Cooler Christmas Weather Ahead as Amihan Replaces Habagat
Just in time for the holidays.
(SPOT.ph) Filipinos will soon experience cooler days and nights as the habagat season officially ends, making way for the amihan season just in time for the holidays, PAGASA said Wednesday
Habagat, or the Southwest Monsoon that brings rains during the months of June to October, has significantly weakened over the past few days, PAGASA administrator Vicente Malano said in a statement.

The high pressure area over the Asian continent, which brings cool "Amihan" winds, has also strengthened which led to the gradual changing of the season, he added.
"With these developments, the Southwest Monsoon season or known locally as 'Habagat' is now officially over," Malano said.
"The season in the Philippines is in the process of transition and will be expecting the gradual start of the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) season in the coming days with a shift in the direction of the winds," he added.
While the country is slowly moving towards the Amihan season, Malano said above-normal rainfall conditions may still occur due to the ongoing La Niña. These, he said, could trigger floods, flashfloods and rain-induced landslides over vulnerable areas.
"All concerned government agencies and the public are advised to take precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impacts of these events," he added.
