(SPOT.ph) Vice Ganda just won the internet yet again.

The superstar comedian once again proved why she’s “unkabogable” with her thought-provoking entry to the #PiliinMoAngPilipinas video trend. It's both a love letter to the Philippines and a callout to Filipinos, as it tackled a range of issues in a way only Vice Ganda can.

What’s the Trend All About

The #PiliinMoAngPilipinas trend is the Filipino content creators’ take on the Asoka makeup transition trend, reviving singer Angeline Quinto’s cheery, fiesta-themed 2011 song for the Choose Philippines campaign.

With its many iterations have come various takes on the trend. Some stuck with the makeup theme, with transitions showing their faces across various steps while putting on makeup with matching costume changes.

One hilarious entry, which has been viewed 29 million times on Facebook, showed the poster imitating men who have made the news for road rage.

Angeline Quinto herself posted a Facebook reel on May 6 using the trend for a gender reveal of her second-born. In a video that has been viewed 6.2 million times as of this posting, Quinto said “Magpapahuli pa ba ako?,” ending the video with the announcement: “It’s a girl.”

But it’s Vice Ganda’s entry, captioned “Lagi kitang pipiliin, Pilipinas,” that has got the internet abuzz. It has gained 4 million views in just 16 hours since posting Saturday night.

In two minutes and 12 seconds, Vice Ganda stokes Filipino pride and patriotism while igniting conversations on the nation’s collective shortcomings.

The video begins with popular Philippine tourist sights, quickly cutting to Vice Ganda wearing a nude top. You’d think it’s just another one of those riding the trend. But the following frames proves it’s deeper than that.

Once the video transitions to Vice in her complete pearl-decked serpentine Filipiniana outfit, the story begins.

Vice first travels to traffic-locked EDSA, bearing with black fumes in the middle of the road. This then transitions to showing her in a packed jeepney, which cuts to a jeepney drivers’ protest action against jeepney modernization. In the middle of the scene, Vice Ganda appears concerned.

She then goes to Manila, laughing from atop the condominium building that has gained notoriety as Luneta Park’s eyesore, while a visitor attempts to take a picture of the Rizal Monument.

From the high rise, she jumps with a unicorn floater to a pool, then the video zooms out to the controversial resort inside Bohol’s Chocolate Hills.

The next scene then takes Vice, still wearing her intricately-made dress, to the disputed West Philippine Sea, where she takes on a Chinese vessel's water cannon—a reference to China’s recent worrisome incursions.

This is where the video climaxes. Pummeled by the Chinese, Vice finds herself face down on the shore, crawling as she reaches out to a Philippine flag on the beach. While on the ground, appearing beaten, she waves the flag, then a message pops up on the frame: “Kahit mahirap kang ipaglaban, pinipili pa rin kita, Pilipinas.”

Radio DJ Dj ChaCha also left a comment on the video, saying: “Ginalingan ng husto. Pakahusay. Piliin ang Pilipinas hindi lang sa salita, content at clout. May paninindigan din sa mga isyung pambayan!  Mabuhay ka Vice Ganda!”

Another commenter said he liked how Vice Ganda uses “her platform to emphasize the current problems we are facing.”  “From the simple 'Piliin mo ang Pilipinas' assignment to this powerful one, Meme Vice is truly mothering!!!

Former senator Bam Aquino captured what many Filipinos felt about Vice’s entry: “Masaya. Malalim. May kirot. May puso. Salamat, Vice,” he said in a comment with the Philippine flag.

Even the political opposition took notice.

“We got the message Vice. Salamat!”
