Vico Sotto Answers Student's Assignment: How Can Citizens Help LGUs?

'"Pasensya na sa handwriting ko, hehe"

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Tuesday granted a student's request for help in answering her homework, posting his handwritten essay of a reply on Twitter.

The second year public administration student asked Sotto, who is running for reelection, what citizens can do to participate in local governance.

"Napasulat tuloy ako ng essay habang nasa caucus," said Sotto with a tears of joy emoji.

Citing a DILG memorandum circular, Sotto, a former political science professor, said citizens could participate in two levels: barangay and city level.

At the barangay level, the public can join barangay assemblies and barangay development councils, Sotto said.

At the city level, citizens can join or form non-government organizations, civil society organizations, or people's organizations. They can then get accredited by the local government, and participate in the selection of organization representative for local special bodies like the city development council.

"Dito dumadaan budget ng LGU bago maisalang sa Sanggunian," he wrote.

"Pasensya na sa handwriting ko, hehe" the mayor said.

Sotto, the son of Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes, is seeking reelection as city mayor with Robert "Dodot" Jaworski as his vice mayor.
