This month, we scoured far and wide... just kidding, we looked no further than the best local beauty brands, some of which boast maximum effectiveness at prices that are easier on the bank account. Inexpensive and effective, these 10 beauty products prove that sometimes, you don’t need to look too far to get something great.



VMV Hypoallergenics Armada Face Cover 45 (P980)

Dr. Vermen Verallo-Rowell (read more about her in The Women Behind the Brand: 10 Pinay Entrepreneurs) has been taking care of skin since the 1970s, and that experience has resulted in products that have cultivated an army of faithful fans. The Armada is a favorite for its combination of high-powered SPF and non-comedogenic, non-greasy feel.

Created in a honeybee farm in Silang, Cavite, Ilog Maria has been creating buzz among organic beauty product enthusiasts. They finally set up shop online and are being redistributed in ECHOstore in BGC for easier accessibility. Among its many honey-infused products is the Bamboo Charcoal soap: made with charcoal bits, it promises a more even-toned complexion.

Human Nature's 100% Natural Sunflower Beauty Oil (P149.75)

From the Spanish word leyenda, meaning "legend" or "story," this eco-friendly brand, created by writer Neva Talladen, uses tried-and-tested organic products from Ilocos and Bicol (although some are sourced internationally). This go-to brand for bath and body products is perfect for those with delicate and sensitive skin. The Face Canvas Moisturizer smoothens out lines and makes a good base for makeup.
