CHECK IT OUT: The Tintin Shop at Fully Booked High Street
Get ready for adventure!
(SPOT.ph) Billions and billions of blue blistering barnacles, it’s here! Hergé’s famous adventurer with a quiff gets his very own specialty shop at Fully Booked High Street, filled with books, shirts, posters, postcards, collectible figures, and a dizzying array of other merchandise for every type of Tintin fan. The series re-entered public consciousness through the 2011 film (made by Steven Spielberg, Edgar Wright, Steven Moffat, and Joe Cornish), but The Adventures of Tintin is bigger than a 3-D feature. It’s a timeless work of literature that has enriched children’s imaginations for several generations and paved the way for the popular comic-book titles we enjoy now.
"He’s the godfather of comic books, I think," Jaime Daez, Managing Director of Fully Booked, mused during the opening of the store on June 25. Daez is a self-professed fan of the fictional Belgian journalist (and his dog!), and in one fateful trip to Nuremberg, he wound up meeting Frédéric Dekeuwer, an archivist for Hergé’s work. Playing out like a real-life Tintin expedition, Dekeuwer invited Daez to Moulinsart in Brussels, where the two negotiated the possibility of bringing the iconic character to the Philippines.
Fastforward to now and blundering Bazookas, it’s really here. The shop has all the essential memorabilia for Tintin enthusiasts and, of course, all the books to recruit new fans. Snowy plushies, anyone?
Quick trivia: Snowy is called Milou in French, a portmanteau of Marie-Louise-the name of Hergé’s first girlfriend. It’s not a reference to being a bitch (female dog or otherwise), it’s his way of immortalizing his feelings for her by turning her into his character’s most trusted friend. Aww. (The smallest Snowy doll sells for P550 and the larger ones sell for P2199)
Collectible figures of Tintin (and Snowy) in several iconic costumes (P1,199)
I "heart" Captain Haddock mugs (part of I "heart" Tintin characters series) (P499)
Tintin and Snowy totes (Price varies per size)
Tintin playing cards (P399)
Be Tintin! (Tintin mask, P140)
Tintin shirts (P999)
Postcards (P85 to P99)
Too much adventuring? Adhesive bandages (P360)

There’s always time for exploration!
