(SPOT.ph) Though the infamous 10-step Korean skincare routine had been making waves in the beauty world since the tail-end of the 2010s up until the beginning of the 2020s, some folks have turned away from the more-is-more mindset in favor of a movement known as "skinimalism." A portmanteau of the words "skin" and "minimalism," the trending beauty philosophy embraces keeping one’s makeup and skincare routines simple and straight to the point. For the former, that usually means sticking to just a few beauty products for everyday looks and letting blemishes and texture peek through the makeup. As for the latter, followers of the skinimalist trend tend to opt for a just-the-bare-necessities type of routine (think face wash, moisturizer, sunscreen, and not much else), usually with gentler formulations and no frills.
When it comes to picking cleansers for these less-is-more type routines, Cetaphil's classic Gentle Skin Cleanser is perhaps the quintessential "oldie but a goodie" option—it's affordable, accessible, and pretty simple as far as ingredients go. The cult-favorite face wash has been around since 1947 and believe it or not, has stayed essentially the same for the last 75 years—until now, that is. This 2022, the cleanser is finally getting an update.
What to Expect From the New and Improved Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
ICYDK, the OG Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser—which is known to be mild, non-irritating, fragrance-free, and non-comedogenic—is made up of just a few ingredients including water, cetearyl alcohol (an emollient substance not to be confused with irritants like denatured alcohol), and propolene glycol (a common humectant). Now, they’ve improved the formula with popular skincare ingredients like niacinamide, which is known to reduce inflammation and even skin tone; panthenol, which boosts hydration and decreases water loss; and glycerin, which draws water into the skin for added moisture. If you take a look at the ingredients listed on the bottle, you'll notice that all three are fairly high on the list, meaning you get a good concentration of each.
Together, these ingredients work to combat dryness, irritation, roughness, tightness, and a weakened skin barrier. Coupled with the original ingredients list, you get an improved face-wash formula that's fit for the beauty concerns of our times, but still maintains the simplicity and mildness that the classic version is known for.
The new Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is now available at Watsons stores, Mercury Drug stores, and on Watsons' website. You can also get the cleanser on Cetaphil’s Shopee page starting March 28 and on their Lazada page starting March 30.
