Ateneo Blue Eagles beat FEU Tamaraws, 65-62, now three-peat UAAP champs
Now three-peat UAAP champions, the Ateneo Blue Eagles beat the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws, 65-62, on September 30 at the Araneta Coliseum. Unlike the first game dominated by the Eagles, today’s game two of the best-of-three finals had spectators at the edge of their seats and on their feet.
Named Player of the Game, Ryan Buenafe shot a three-pointer with less than 30 seconds remaining, tipping the scales in favor of the Katipunan squad at 64-59. Buenafe finished with 23 points, six rebounds and one assist.
After suffering from high blood pressure, FEU Coach Glen Capacio remained in the locker room during the second half. Inquirer Sports Tweeted after the game, "Inside the FEU dugout: Players, coaching staff in tears."
Ateneo’s Kirk Long, who has tasted all three consecutive championships of the team, told Studio 23 right after the game, "Defense wins the championships." His teammate Eric Salamat said in Filipino, "For me, we’re all leaders."
