Jinggoy Estrada does not want to summon Reyes family to Senate probe on alleged military corruption
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada said yesterday that he does not want to invite the late Angelo Reyes’ family to the ongoing Senate investigation on alleged military corruption, reports ABS-CBN News. The report comes a day after Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago said the former military chief’s family "may be summoned" to the probe to determine if they are "liable under the Anti-Graft Act."
Estrada added that Reyes should be excluded from the Senate committee’s report and recommendations after it finishes its investigation. "’Pag sinama mo si Gen. Reyes, sino ipro-prosecute mo, eh patay na?" ("If you include Gen. Reyes, who will you prosecute? He is already dead.")
On Tuesday, Santiago said that under the Penal Code, Reyes’ "wife and children are obliged to restore whatever property may be proved to have been acquired by illegal means."
Estrada, who grilled Reyes at the investigation, said he will not go to Reyes’ wake to prevent adding insult to the family.
