RH Bill plenary debate postponed after session hall aircon breaks down
The Reproductive Health (RH) Bill plenary discussion yesterday was postponed after the air-conditioning system of the session hall broke down, reports PhilStar.com.
House Majority Leader and Mandaluyong Rep. Neptali Gonzales said House Secretary General Marilyn Yap told him that the air-conditioning units in the main building, where the session hall is located, "could not be repaired in time" for the afternoon session. "A technical team from the chiller supplier is already in the House to do remedial measures," PhilStar.com quoted Yap.
Gonzales said they postponed the plenary discussion after seeking approval from House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and consulting the main author of the RH Bill, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman.
According to PhilStar.com, Lagman said the "fortuitous delay" of the plenary discussion "reinforces our advocacy and resolve to pursue the enactment of the Reproductive Health Bill" to avoid leaving matters of "pregnancy and development... to the contingency of accidental events."
He added, "This temporary setback of only one day should spur RH advocates to continue surmounting all supervening obstacles."
