15 million Pinoys made a mistake voting for P-Noy, says Minority Leader Edcel Lagman
(SPOT.ph) House Minority Leader Edcel Lagman declared in a statement yesterday, June 29, that the over 15 million Filipinos who voted for President Noynoy Aquino made a "mistake" in electing a "big problem" as the country's head of state, reports GMA News.
Lagman, who earlier reproved Aquino for his incapability to face "bad news" in his administration, assailed the President for "failing to deliver his promises of more jobs and less corruption" almost a year after his election into office. "The Filipino people were expecting too much from President Aquino. Shibboleths and promises during the presidential campaign concealed and overshadowed his inadequacies," he said.
Citing reports from Hong Kong-based Political and Risk Consultancy and pollster Social Weather Stations, Lagman said that while corruption and poverty rose, the economy declined under Aquino's regime. Lagman also warned the public in the report to "expect the worst" from the remaining five years of Aquino's term.
However, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda rebutted Lagman's statements, dismissing the opposition leader's words as "playing fast and free with the facts." Contrary to Lagman's report, Lacierda clarified that unemployment went down from 7.4 percent in the first quarter to 7.2 percent in the second quarter, and that the Gross Domestic Product was higher than what Lagman made it out to be.
According to GMA's report, Lacierda said that the opposition leader tried to characterize the administration's first year as "365 Days of Sound and Fury" when it was really "a year of solid, painstaking, and conscientious rebuilding of our gutted and shattered institutions."
