Charice named possible "future Justin Bieber" by Atlantic magazine
(SPOT.ph) International singing sensation Charice made it to Atlantic Magazine's "The Boys Who Would Be Bieber" list, which was published on June 22. Charice is one of two girls who made the cut, the other being another YouTube sensation, Rebecca Black.
Charice's international renown began in 2007 when producers of the Ellen DeGeneres Show invited her as a guest after seeing a YouTube video of her performance in the Korean talent contest, Star King-a story slightly similar to Justin Bieber's YouTube beginnings.
The article also lists several Bieber wannabes like the Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Ronan Parke, 12, who has the pop star’s signature hairstyle down pat; Australian singer-songwriter Cody Simpson, 14; Greyson Chance, 13, whose rendition of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" also got him an invite to perform on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, among others.
However, Jason Richards, who wrote the article, said that something was still lacking in the long line of Bieber heirs. He wrote: "Beyond the hairstyle (which its progenitor has already moved past), viral celebrity, heartthrob-ish first names, and lovelorn musical subject matter, these Bieber successors have one thing in common: They have yet to succeed on a grand scale. That is, none have come close to the youth-culture stranglehold the original enjoys."
