Jason de Jong returns to Azkals after apologizing to Coach Michael Weiss
(SPOT.ph) Fil-Dutch midfielder Jason de Jong has returned to the Philippine national football team after being dropped for disciplinary reasons last April, reports ABS-CBN News.
In a Malaya report last April 3, Azkals coach Michael Weiss announced that he was unsure if he wanted the 21-year-old on the team, saying that "a player on the national team can't behave like him." De Jong’s other club, Indonesian team Persiba Balikpapan, also let him go for violating his contract. "He rarely attends practice and has made excuses about his physical condition which turned out to be a lie," said Legal Division Newcastle Chair Aberdeen Muhammad Mundar in an ABS-CBN News report published on May 4.
However, De Jong has since apologized to Weiss. "I had some issues with my club before, but now I spoke to Coach Weiss and we cleared the air," he said, adding that he was happy to be back on the team.
"We had different opinions on issues. But he apologized to me, to the management, and to the team," said Weiss. The coach added that he will test De Jong in Bahrain to see what he can contribute to the team. Weiss also said that De Jong's experience would be helpful in the coming match against higher-ranked Kuwait.
