Pinay YouTube sensation Maria Aragon in Manila to sign recording contract, wants to work with Gary Valenciano
(SPOT.ph) Fil-Canadian YouTube singing sensation Maria Aragon arrived in Manila yesterday evening at around 10:30 p.m., reports PEP.ph. The 11-year-old, who will sign a recording contract with Star Records this Sunday, July 24, will be staying in the country until September. She will also guest in noontime variety show, ASAP Rocks.
Flanked by members of the press who greeted her at the airport, Aragon revealed her wish to work with local artists like Piolo Pascual, Martin Nievera, and Gary Valenciano. "It's a dream for me to meet and work with Gary Valenciano. He is such a performer and it would be a dream come true if I get to sing a song with him," she said. In an ABS-CBN News article, Aragon also hinted that her album would feature sounds like Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and "Kung Bubuksan Mo Lang Ang Puso."
Work aside, the self-confessed Jollibee Chicken Joy fan also plans to visit Boracay. "Many are telling me that Boracay is one of the best beaches in the world. I'd like to see that for myself," she said. "I want to go around and be familiar with the country... I want to make the most of my stay here."
The young singer, who shot to fame after a video of her covering "Born This Way" went viral on YouTube, admitted that she hasn't seen much of her family since becoming a celebrity. She is, however, grateful for her success. "I love what I’m doing and it’s a dream of any kid to have this kind of opportunity. But it makes me miss my family a lot," she said.
Aragon has performed on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Good Morning America, and The Today Show. Recently, she sang before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton. "I was overwhelmed! I couldn’t say a word when (the royal couple) was right in front of me," said Aragon, "For a kid like me to be in front of royalty is such an awesome experience. It’s like a dream coming true."
